Sitting on Rocks at Sunset

A relief to arrive on the island this summer, for the group family holiday, it’s a ritual. The feeling of familiarity to move into the rest and restoration part of the year, early morning walks, ocean dips, 2-hour Pilates, gelati catch ups, a smoothie dash to the green room for the vitamin hit, a random rest. These are moments throughout the day.

This year I noticed more small groups just hanging out, taking their time to sit on the grassy patch across from the gelati shop, stopping to watch the turtles swim when on the gorge walk, on the rocks at sunset, “let’s meet for a sunset drink” is the message sent out late afternoon.

“If you’re up for it?“ Usually we are, it wasn’t for the drink, more about the chat. This is the spirit of the island, performance not on the agenda. It can take a few days to let go.

Sunsets enjoyed, leads to dinner, not many choices which makes it simple, a late breakfast is the meal of the day.

This was a small break, seeing and hearing good things. Writing this back at the office, where I sit trying to figure out my year and how I can learn to write stories when moving around and stay true to this spirit. It will unfold.

I stumbled on this link,

The Beauty of Earth From Orbit

And this quote:

“I read and walked for miles at night along a beach….searching endlessly for someone wonderful who would step out of the darkness and change my life. It never crossed my mind that person could be me” Anna Quindlen
