Old is new again

Mixing old techniques with new fabrics, gives the sampling process layers of depth and meaning. Building a collection from scratch, just like these blocks which were made from trees, stamping the fabrics with unqiue patterns for that season.

Thanks to Amisha, our new connection and friend, eyes on the ground being able to connect with local artists in Rajasthan, source and look for new fabrics, the best DHL parcels are the ones which arrive bursting at the seams with layers of swatches, earthy tones, bright and soft block prints, followed by the illogical puzzle of mapping together small squares of fabrics to start the mood board.

It's been a blessing that we have found each other, thanks to an introduction blended with encouragement, a positive combination for the exploration of new opportunities.

Just to be able to touch and feel these is satisfying for the creatvie hands this year.

One of the trickiest parts of not being able to travel, touching the fabrics and then getting lost, looking for something new. We’ve embraced the digital channels, tic tacing back and forth, via zoom, skype, whatsApp and emails. A lot of two-ing and throwing back and forth with parcels.

This is a sneak peak, behind the scenes, part of the process as we start the sampling by picking the colour pallets that go with the embroidery. Each piece of Naudic has it’s own unique embroidery detailing.

Once I can get to India, in early 2022, I'll be able to go in and see where this is all done, add more storytelling to how we build our collections. So here are a couple of the little behind the scenes photos that we have been sharing via WhatsApp as we go through the process starting from scratch.

I’m practicing my daily blogging while away from my office, semi on the road, it’s early days and still learning the tools from start to finish, thanks for reading.
